Miscellaneous Information
John was born at Edmonton, Alberta on 4 September 1923. His father was a Commissionaire, born in Ontario and his mother was born in Ireland. He had a brother William and sisters Dorothy, Agnes and Florence as well as a one year old half brother, Ronald. He went to the Sacred Heart School 1937-1938 (grade 8). High School Entrance. He also took Business Courses in Salesmanship and Advertising. The sports John was interested in were skating, swimming, skiing and badminton. John worked in the advertising department of the Edmonton Journal 1938-1939 and 1941-1942. He also worked at the Capitol Theatre as a temporary usher during 1941. |
He enlisted on 26 January 1942 and after training embarked for the U.K. He arrived at 3 PRC on 6 November 1942, 22 OTU 24 November 1942, 1659 CU 20 February 1943 and 408 Squadron on 11 March 1943. Less than three weeks later John very sadly lost his life at the age of only nineteen years. |
